Volunteer Position – Treasurer
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

All positions on the board are voluntary, including the role of Treasurer. The duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer of the Manitoba Association for Rights and Liberties include, but are not limited to:
FINANCIAL
To oversee, present budgets, and manage accounts, and financial statements to the executives and board of directors. To be accountable for proper record keeping, ensuring resources are being utilized in line with MARL’s policies, governance model, and legal and regulatory requirements. Develop and implement financial strategies, reserves, and investment policies. Act as a signatory on cheques, other financial statements, and funding. Provide advice and assistance with regard to filing annual tax forms, including Registered Charity Information Return and employee T4 statements. Handle any financial transactions in conjunction with the Executive Director.
LEADERSHIP
Act as the subject matter expert surrounding all financial management and strategy. Implement, monitor, and evaluate financial controls and systems. Chair the finance committee and those involved, reporting to the President of the Board and Executive Director for all financial matters
Liaise with any external or internal auditors. Contribute and support the fundraising initiatives and strategy.
REGULATORY
Be aware of any and all CRA policies and regulatory requirements with respect to financial compliance.
Clarify and be the main point of contact with any financial issues related to CRA. Ensure all records are kept up to date and available for CRA reporting expectations.
EDUCATION
Post-secondary education in business, with a major in accounting, or equivalent. CPA designation is an asset.
EXPERIENCE
Bookkeeping experience is required. Accounting experience is required. Fundraising and sponsorship experience is an asset.
SKILLS
Financial management, Record keeping, Accounting, Audit, Self-motivated, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
