Human Rights Day for elementary students
Join us for a full day of engaging workshops and museum tours designed around the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We’re inviting around 20–28 students from four schools, for a total of 120 students. No cost to attend, just arrange transportation and have students bring a bagged lunch.
Workshops include interactive presentations, hands-on activities, and creative stations like pin-making and postcard creation. Plus, guided museum tours tailored to K-8 students!
Capacity: We are inviting 20-28 students from each schools. Typically, we would have one class from each school come, as that makes organizing on their end easier. However, you can organize students from multiple grades to come if you wish. If you have any concerns regarding the number of students please inform us.
Cost: There is no cost to attend this event. We’d like to ask schools to arrange transportation to and from the museum and ensure students bring a bagged lunch.
MARL Workshops:
We will conduct a workshop based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The workshop will consist of two parts:
Presentation and Activities: The first half will feature a PowerPoint presentation along with hands-on activities and card games.
Creative Expression: During the second half, students will engage in creative activities to express what they’ve learned, including a pin-making station where they can design items advocating for their rights, postcard creation to share their newfound knowledge with friends and family, and a story pin activity connecting their experiences to the right to play.
Museum Tours:
Students will have the opportunity to choose from four programs for Grades 5 to 8 and one program for Kindergarten to Grade 3, all lasting 75 minutes. For each group of 20 students, there will be one interpreter.
During the Gallery Exploration time, there will be a Self-Guided Tour Booklet for Grades 5-8. At the same time, additional hands-on, creative activities and human-rights-related improv games will take place in the classrooms for younger students.
All programming, including our workshops, will be bilingual; however, spots are very limited. To sign up your class, email: education@marl.mb.ca
